Enemy of the State

Public calls from members of the American political establishment for the murder of Wikileaks founder Julian Assange show the disturbing degree to which politicians have lost their way.

America has raised its military perspective over the last four decades and this once standard bearer for openness and democratic values is in danger of becoming a fading warring nation where calls for political assassination is as common as the daily killings stalking its cities.

Since the public execution of President Kennedy in 1963, clandestine operations by America's shadowy security departments have increased dramatically to embrace the unashamed use of murder, assassination and torture. What now alarms is the recent assault on free speech because it highlights such political failures. The messenger is now the terrorist and can be murdered without trial. What happened to the principal "He who accuses must prove"
